BlizzCON 2026: World of Warcraft What’s Next Recap

The World of Warcraft: Midnight What’s Next panel has ended, and wow… There is a lot to unpack.

They began by unveiling Talebound, a brand-new game mode like Plunderstorm, except this is going to be a roguelite ARPG where you can choose between three classes and progress through four different stories. The stories are meant for you to fail at them, collect resources, power up through a progression system, and eventually tackle them.

So far, the classes are:

  • The Slayer has immense physical damage from guns, swords, bombs, and more.
  • The Inquisitor is a magical priest using purifying flames to deal with foes.
  • The Witch is a shaman/druid class that summons poisonous frogs and spiders and can transform into cat form.

When you complete a run, you will return to a place called Quillgrave to upgrade your talents and stats before trying again.

PATCH 12.2: ECLIPSE

We get a look into World of Warcraft Midnight Patch 12.2: Eclipse. As one would imagine, we get the standard fare of updates:

  • The Mantle Vault: A new zone
  • The Worldcore: New 8 Boss Raid
  • Thraegar’s Stand: A new 3 Boss Dungeon
  • A New Delve
  • Season 3 Delve Nemesis Boss: Astalor Bloodsworn
  • Single Boss Lair: Gearhold
  • New Mythic+ Season: Dungeons include Thraegar’s Stand, Maisara Caverns, Magister’s Terrace, Underrot, Iron Docks, Sanguine Depths, The Stonecore, and Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr.
  • New Prey Difficulty: Anguish (Higher Than Nightmare)
  • Radiant Screams: New Outdoor content that relies on kill streaks for better rewards
  • Forsaken, Night Elves, and Darkspear Trolls can become Paladins
  • Calibration Chamber: A special testing area that you can go in solo or with a party to test out specs with raid buffs and other modifiers. Theorycrafters rejoice!

They announced that there is going to be a new Legendary! It will be a caster dagger named Midnight’s Edge, and all we know so far is that it is void-themed, looks like the Black Blade of the Empire, and you have to complete the raid in order to obtain it.

As far as Mythic+ goes, they announced some changes coming to the achievements. While they changed it to the Top 1% for the best rewards, they also added a Top 5% achievement to give more players a chance to earn rewards from the season. In the biggest change, they announced that these percentages will now be based on your SPEC, not the total number of players in the game. This was met with thunderous applause.

PLAYER HOUSING IN 12.2

They shifted gears and announced several new Player Housing features for 12.2, which are as follows:

  • Showcases: The ability to list your home for people to visit on a public board. You can also generate a code to easily invite people to see your house. They will be visiting a snapshot of your house, so you can keep making changes while they visit without being interrupted.
  • Mannequins: You can place mannequins in your home and dress them up. It works similarly to the transmog system, meaning you can finally display armor and weapons in your house.
  • Copy/Paste: You can finally copy a piece of decor and paste it, making building so much easier.
  • Multi-Select: You can select multiple pieces of decor by clicking on them individually or with a drag-and-select feature, making it easier to move custom pieces you’ve built from one room to another.
  • Four New Endeavors coming in 12.2, including the Stormtalon.
  • Decor Buying: Once you buy decor, you never have to travel to that vendor to buy it again. You can buy it from your Housing UI while in your house.

WRATH OF THE LICH KING REMIX

The next Remix event was announced, and as anyone could have guessed, it is Wrath of the Lich King Remix! With The Last Titan returning players to Northrend, it makes sense to send us into the expansion that gave us our first glimpse at the frozen north! Wrath of the Lich King Remix is coming in the summer of 2027.

ROADMAP

PATCH 12.2.5

With 12.2 being the big talk, Blizzard decided to drop a surprise on us. The first minor content update after 12.2 will introduce something the community has been asking for and asking for and asking for… well… they listened.

In Patch 12.2.5, all transmog restrictions will be ELIMINATED! Want to wear plate as a mage, warlock or hunter? Go for it! Want to wear full cloth as a Paladin? Sure! Want to mix and match gear types to create truly epic looks? You are no longer restricted to do so!
