Wild West Pioneers is giving prospective settlers an early taste of frontier life, with the city builder’s final open playtest now underway on Steam.
Developed by EmpireCraft Studios and published by Toplitz Productions, Wild West Pioneers is heading into PC Early Access on September 25, 2026. Before then, players can apply to take part in the playtest, which runs until September 14.
Access isn’t guaranteed, with interested players required to register through the game’s Steam page. Those selected will be able to play a specially prepared build for up to two hours and provide feedback ahead of the Early Access launch.
The game puts players in charge of a group of settlers heading west in search of a new life. Starting with little more than basic resources and makeshift homes, players will need to establish settlements, manage production, keep residents supplied and gradually transform rough frontier outposts into thriving towns.
Exploration is also a major part of Wild West Pioneers. Scouts can be sent into unknown territory to uncover new locations and opportunities as players decide where to expand next.
Individual settlers have their own motivations for making the journey west, from escaping debt and heartbreak to chasing the promise of gold. There is also a wider story running through the campaign, with the player character attempting to discover what happened to their missing father.
Keeping townspeople happy will require more than simply providing food and shelter. As settlements grow, residents develop greater expectations, making their trust and satisfaction another resource players will have to manage.
Progression is deliberately flexible, allowing players to choose which objectives to pursue, how rewards are spent, and how each settlement develops rather than following a completely fixed path.
The Wild West Pioneers open playtest is available to apply for on Steam now and ends on September 14.
Wild West Pioneers launches into Early Access on PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store on September 25, 2026.
