For years now, StarCraft has suffered neglect in the Blizzard library to the point where its memory has become somewhat of a joke. But that may all change next weekend when BlizzCon convenes, because the studio’s putting the franchise up front and center for a big announcement.

Adding even more fuel to the speculation fire is the fact that the StarCraft: Remastered website is purposefully glitching and spitting out a few secret messages in an ARG fashion. The community’s been digging through all of these, finding connections to StarCraft lore and a possible major time jump to a later period than we’ve seen in the games.

The strong rumor here is that Blizzard and Nexon are working together to create an open-world shooter set in the StarCraft universe. Earlier this week, we reported on a quote from a supposed insider who said that this deal is about ready to go through.

No matter what, StarCraft might be the game to watch going into BlizzCon — is it finally time for this neglected franchise to blossom once more?
