Crazy Taxi Film In The Works At Netflix And SEGA, New Sonic TV Series

Netflix is working on feature-film adaptation of SEGA’s Crazy Taxi franchise, which will be penned by The Naked Gun’s Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.

The Crazy Taxi movie will also see Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher, plus SEGA’s Toru Nakahara, serving as producers on the project. Beyond that, Netflix and SEGA are also planning a new animated series based on Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as a movie based on Ryu Ga Gotokku Studio’s upcoming Stranger Than Heaven.

“Great games already have what every adaptation is chasing — characters people love, worlds they know by heart, and fandoms that show up,” commented Brandon Riegg, VP of nonfiction and transmedia at Netflix. “With ‘Crazy Taxi,’ ‘Sonic’ and ‘Stranger Than Heaven,’ we get to work across three completely different eras of Sega’s catalog, celebrating everything fans love, while introducing them to new audiences.”

Meanwhile, Nakahara-san added, “Expect something cute yet cool for ‘Sonic,’ hilariously crazy for ‘Crazy Taxi’ and a badass action drama for ‘Stranger Than Heaven,’ because we’ve got some amazing creative ideas lined up and we are just getting started. The whole team is absolutely thrilled!”

SEGA is currently working on a new entry in the Crazy Taxi series, Crazy Taxi World Tour, which is in development for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S and will launch in 2027. Stranger Than Heaven meanwhile is slated to launch on January 15, 2027.
